Last updated September 12, 2026. Your family's privacy matters to us — here's how KathaVani handles your information.
KathaVani ("KathaVani," "we," "us," "our") is operated by Cortexa Tech (cortexatech.in). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, store, protect, and otherwise process information when you use the KathaVani app, create or maintain an account, purchase or use a subscription, upload or record a voice, create a voice profile or clone, create or listen to stories, add family members, contact support, or otherwise interact with the Service. By using KathaVani, you acknowledge that you have read this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with it, please discontinue use of KathaVani. Third-party websites, app stores, or services linked from KathaVani have their own privacy policies, which this Policy does not cover.
What we collect depends on how you use KathaVani. It may include: account information; profile information; family-member information; voice recordings and voice-profile information; generated audio; story content and text you provide; device and technical information; usage information; subscription and transaction information; customer-support communications; and diagnostic/log information. We do not collect every category from every user.
When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, login credentials, profile picture (if you add one), language preference, and subscription status. We do not ask for or require your phone number to use KathaVani. If you sign in with a third-party provider (e.g. Apple or Google), we receive the information that provider and your authorization permit.
You may provide profile details such as a nickname, age range, preferred language, and story preferences. On Premium or the Family plan, we also collect information about the additional members you add — name/nickname, relationship, age range, assigned voice profile, and usage within the shared account. The account owner is responsible for ensuring added members are appropriately authorized to use the account.
KathaVani lets you provide voice recordings to create a voice profile. A recording may contain your voice, speech, background sound, or anything else spoken during recording. Recordings are processed to create a voice profile, generate a voice clone, and produce personalized story narration. You should only submit a recording when you have the necessary rights and permission to do so.
KathaVani creates a digital voice representation ("voice clone") based on an authorized recording. Depending on applicable law, voice data may be considered biometric or sensitive personal information. We process voice data only for the purpose of providing KathaVani's narration features inside your own account, and we do not authorize creating an unauthorized voice representation of another person. We never sell, rent, or license your voice recordings or voice clones to anyone, and we do not use them to train models for other users.
Before submitting another person's voice — including a family member's — you must have the authorization and consent required by law, or, for a minor, the consent of their parent or legal guardian. We may require confirmation of authorization before processing a voice, and may restrict or remove a voice profile if we receive a valid complaint or reasonably believe it was submitted without appropriate authorization. Never use KathaVani's voice cloning to impersonate someone without authorization, commit fraud, mislead a listener about the source of audio, or harass or harm another person; we may suspend voice functionality or accounts where misuse is detected.
KathaVani provides stories and experiences for families and children, and we take children's privacy seriously. We do not seek to collect more information from or about a child than is reasonably necessary for the feature being used, and we rely on the account-owning parent or guardian to supervise a child's use of the app and to provide any information relating to a child (such as a first name/nickname, age range, or voice recording) with appropriate authority. Parents or guardians may contact us regarding a child's information and request access, correction, or deletion as available under applicable law.
We collect and process what you provide for storytelling — prompts, characters, names, themes, narration instructions, and your generated story history. Avoid entering sensitive personal information into free-text story fields unless a feature specifically requires it and you are comfortable doing so.
KathaVani uses AI and machine-learning technologies for story generation and personalization, voice processing and synthesis, content recommendations, and product improvement. Information submitted to an AI-powered feature may be processed by KathaVani and, where applicable, by authorized technology providers acting on our behalf, limited to the purpose of providing and improving the Service. AI-generated stories or narration may occasionally be inaccurate or unexpected and are not independently verified factual content.
We may automatically collect device type and model, operating system and version, app version, screen resolution, language and time zone, approximate region, IP address, device identifiers, and crash/diagnostic information, primarily to operate, secure, troubleshoot, and improve KathaVani.
We may collect information about how you use KathaVani — stories opened or played, playback duration, features and voice features used, story-generation requests, subscription activity, settings changes, errors encountered, and session information — along with server-side request logs used for security, debugging, and analytics.
Our website may use cookies and similar technologies for authentication, security, session management, preferences, and analytics; you can control these through your browser settings, though disabling some may affect functionality. We may use analytics tools to understand feature usage, performance, and subscription activity; where a third-party analytics provider is used, its processing is also governed by its own privacy policy.
If you purchase a subscription, payment may be processed by the Apple App Store, Google Play, or another authorized payment provider — we generally do not store your complete card number ourselves. We may receive and maintain transaction identifiers, plan type, purchase and renewal dates, amount paid, and payment status to administer your subscription, consistent with the manual, non-auto-renewing billing model described in our Terms of Service.
If you contact us, we may collect your name, email, account identifier, device information, and the content of your request (including any screenshots or attachments) to investigate and respond. We may send service-related communications — verification, security, billing, and subscription notices, and important changes to our Terms or this Policy — and, where permitted, optional promotional messages you can opt out of while still receiving essential service communications.
We may receive information from third parties where necessary to provide the Service, such as Apple, Google, authentication providers, payment processors, analytics providers, and cloud-service providers. If you sign in with a third-party provider, we receive the information that provider and your authorization permit; that provider's own privacy policy also applies.
We use personal information to: provide the Service (create and authenticate accounts, deliver and generate stories, process voices and narration, manage family accounts and subscriptions); operate and maintain the platform (servers, monitoring, troubleshooting, support); improve KathaVani (understand usage, develop features, fix problems); maintain security (detect fraud and abuse, protect accounts, investigate incidents); and comply with the law (respond to lawful requests, meet regulatory requirements, enforce our rights).
Where applicable law requires a legal basis, we rely on one or more of: performance of a contract with you, your consent, our legitimate interests (such as providing and securing the Service, preventing fraud, and developing features), or compliance with a legal obligation. Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it where permitted by law; withdrawal does not affect processing that already occurred.
We do not sell your personal information merely because you use KathaVani. We may share information with trusted parties reasonably necessary to operate the Service, including: cloud infrastructure providers; AI, voice-processing, and speech-synthesis providers; payment processors and app stores; analytics and authentication providers; customer-support and email providers; content-delivery providers; professional advisers; and legal authorities where legally required. We seek to use providers offering appropriate security and contractual protections, and to require them to process information according to our instructions.
If KathaVani is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets, personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to applicable law. We may also disclose information where reasonably necessary to comply with the law, respond to legal process or government requests, protect users or KathaVani, investigate fraud or security threats, or enforce our Terms.
We may create aggregated, statistical, or de-identified information from data collected through KathaVani and use it, where permitted by law, for analytics, research, and product development. We will not attempt to re-identify properly de-identified information except where permitted or required by law.
Voice recordings and voice-derived data are processed only to provide the voice functionality you request — creating an authorized voice profile, producing personalized narration, generating audio, and troubleshooting or preventing abuse of that functionality. Voice data is retained while necessary for that purpose. Deleting a voice profile from the Voices tab removes the voice model and its underlying recordings from our active systems (deletion from encrypted backups may take longer); stories already narrated with that voice remain in your library unless you delete them separately. You are responsible for ensuring you have permission to submit any voice you provide, and for not using voice cloning for impersonation or fraud — we may remove or restrict voice data where necessary.
KathaVani may use infrastructure or service providers located outside the country where you live, meaning personal information may be transferred internationally. Where applicable law requires safeguards for such transfers, we seek to use appropriate mechanisms recognized under that law.
We retain personal information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, unless a longer period is required by law. As a general guide: account and profile information is kept while your account is active and briefly after; voice recordings and profiles are kept while needed for the voice feature you're using, until you delete them; transaction records are kept as required for accounting, tax, and legal purposes; and security logs and support communications are kept for a reasonable period for security and service-quality purposes.
You may request deletion of your account from Settings or by contacting us. Deletion may result in loss of saved stories, voice profiles, preferences, and account history, and we may delete or de-identify associated information subject to legitimate retention requirements described above. Deleted information may remain temporarily in backup systems maintained for disaster recovery and business continuity, and will be removed from those backups according to our ordinary retention and deletion procedures.
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect personal information, which may include encryption in transit and at rest, access and authorization controls, authentication, monitoring, logging, and security testing. No security system can guarantee absolute security. If a security incident involving personal information requires notification under applicable law, we will notify affected users as required, by email, in-app notice, or another legally permitted method.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to: access the personal information we hold about you; correct inaccurate information; request deletion; receive a portable copy of certain information; object to or restrict certain processing; and withdraw consent where processing is based on it. Deletion or restriction rights may be limited where information must be retained for legal, security, fraud-prevention, or accounting purposes. To exercise a right, contact us at support@cortexatech.in — we may need to verify your identity before completing certain requests, and you may authorize an agent to submit a request on your behalf subject to proof of authorization.
You can opt out of promotional communications using the unsubscribe link in an email, applicable in-app settings, or by contacting us. We may still send essential communications such as security alerts, billing notices, and legal notices even if you opt out of marketing messages.
KathaVani only requests the device permissions it actually needs: microphone access to record a voice sample when you initiate that feature; notification access for story reminders and account/security alerts; and camera or photo-library access if you add a profile picture. We do not request your device's location or your phone contacts at all — KathaVani has no location or contacts permission in the app. You can manage or revoke any permission from your device settings; denying a permission may disable the related feature.
KathaVani may link to third-party websites or services we do not control and are not responsible for. If you download KathaVani from the Apple App Store or Google Play, or purchase a subscription through them, those platforms collect and process information under their own privacy policies, and subscription status/transaction information may be shared with us as needed to provide your subscription.
KathaVani does not currently display advertisements. If that changes in the future, we will update this Policy to explain the relevant technologies, data practices, and any consent or opt-out controls required by law. Because there is no universally accepted standard for browser "Do Not Track" signals, we may not respond to every such signal, but we will honor legally recognized privacy-preference signals where required.
We do not sell your personal information, your stories, or your voice recordings and voice clones — to anyone, for any price. Where applicable privacy law defines "sale" or "sharing" more broadly than the ordinary meaning of those words, we will still provide the disclosures and opt-out rights that law requires, but as a matter of policy, KathaVani's business does not involve selling user or voice data.
Some information KathaVani processes — particularly voice recordings and voice-derived identifiers, and any children's information — may receive special protection as sensitive or biometric information under applicable law. We process this information only where permitted or required by law and for the legitimate purposes described in this Policy (primarily, providing the voice and story features you request), and do not use voice-related information for unrelated identification purposes unless separately authorized or legally permitted.
KathaVani is operated from India and processes personal information in accordance with applicable Indian data-protection law. Depending on the applicable legal framework, you may have rights relating to access, correction, deletion, consent, and grievance redressal. You can exercise these rights or raise a grievance by contacting us at support@cortexatech.in; the scope of these rights may evolve as Indian privacy regulation develops.
If you access KathaVani from the European Economic Area, the UK, Switzerland, or a US state with its own privacy law, you may have additional rights under that law — typically including access, correction, deletion, portability, objecting to or restricting certain processing, opting out of "sale or sharing," and limiting use of sensitive information, along with the right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority. We honor the rights required by the law that applies to you; contact us at support@cortexatech.in to make a request, and we will let you know which rights apply based on your location.
We will not discriminate against you for exercising a privacy right, though features that inherently require certain information may not be available if you choose not to provide it. We aim to collect only what is reasonably necessary to provide KathaVani, and encourage you to avoid entering information you don't need to. You can update most account information yourself, and may request correction of inaccurate information we hold about you.
You are responsible for thinking about privacy before uploading personal recordings, photos, names, or other personal content into a story or voice profile — avoid uploading anything confidential unless the relevant feature is intended to process it. KathaVani does not make your private account content publicly available merely because you create it; if we introduce public-sharing features, we will provide additional information at the point you choose to publish. Content placed in a shared Family plan library may be visible or usable by other authorized members of that family account, so account owners should bear this in mind before adding shared content.
You are responsible for keeping your PIN and login credentials private, logging out of shared devices, and keeping your email account secure. Notify us promptly if you suspect unauthorized access. Some content may be cached locally on your device for playback and offline use; it remains until you remove the app, clear app data, or delete the content, while account data, stories, audio, and voice profiles are stored on cloud infrastructure that processes information on our behalf.
We may process information to detect suspicious account activity, subscription or payment abuse, unauthorized voice usage, and attempts to circumvent usage limits or security. We may use automated systems and, where necessary, limited human review to identify content that violates the law, our Terms, or voice-use requirements — access is limited to personnel and service providers who reasonably need it for these purposes.
We may update this Policy from time to time to reflect new features, changes in technology or applicable law, or changes to our service providers. When we make a material change, we will provide notice through the app, our website, or email, and update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of KathaVani after an update takes effect means you acknowledge the updated Policy, except where the law requires us to obtain your consent first.
For privacy questions, requests, or complaints, contact us at support@cortexatech.in or visit cortexatech.in. We will review complaints in accordance with applicable law; where the law gives you the right to contact a government data-protection authority, you may also exercise that right, but we ask that you reach out to us first so we can try to resolve the issue directly.
No company can guarantee that every transmission is perfectly secure, every third-party service is uninterrupted, every system is free of vulnerabilities, or that deletion is instantaneous across every backup system. By using KathaVani, you acknowledge the inherent risks of internet-based services. If any provision of this Policy is found invalid or unenforceable, the rest remains in effect, and where this Policy is translated into another language, the English version controls unless applicable law requires otherwise.
